THE OFFICERS OF THE LODGE.

                                                                               

WORSHIPFUL MASTER

 

The Worshipful Master is the most senior of the Lodge Offices he is the ultimate ruler of the Lodge.  He is actually responsible for everything.  The Lodge elects a new Worshipful Master every year.

This position is the ultimate progressive Office within the Lodge and you, normally, cannot be Installed as a Worshipful  Master unless you have served a year as a Warden (Senior or Junior)

 

 

SENIOR WARDEN

 

This position is also a progressive Office within the Lodge.

He is, however, appointed by each W. Master at his Installation.

 

 

 JUNIOR WARDEN

 

This position is also a progressive Office within the Lodge.

He is, however, appointed by each W. Master at his Installation.

 

 

CHAPLAIN

 

This position is non progressive within the Lodge. 

The Chaplain is appointed by the W. Master at each Installation Meeting. 

 

 

TREASURER

 

This position is not a progressive position within the Lodge.  The Treasurer is elected by the Brethren of the Lodge at the Election Meeting usually the meeting before the Installation Meeting.  The Treasurer, as you would expect, handles all the financial aspects of the Lodge. Collecting the Annual Subscription, paying invoices as required.  Although the Treasurer is elected every year he would normally be in office for at least five years.

 

 

SECRETARY

 

This position is not a progressive position within the Lodge.  The Secretary is appointed by the W. Master at each Installation Meeting.  The Secretary is the King Pin of the Lodge all information is collated by him and he is responsible for the day to day running of the Lodge.  The secretary is appointed by the W. Master although it is usual to appoint the same person each year to provide continuity.  Some Secretaries serve for up to 20 years or more although 5 – 10 years is the more normal.

 

 

 DIRECTOR OF CEREMONIES

 

This position is non progressive within the Lodge and he is appointed by the W. Master at each Installation. 

He normally is, however an experienced Past Master and is reappointed for a number of years.

He is responsible for the quality of the Ceremonies carried out by the Brethren.

 

 

ALMONER

 

This position is non progressive within the Lodge.  His duties are to look after the welfare of the Brethren and their dependants.  He is again appointed by the incoming W. Master each year.

 

 

 CHARITY STEWARD

 

This position is non progressive within the Lodge.  One of his duties is the collection of the Charity Donations.

 

LODGE MENTOR

 

This is a new Office in most Lodges, as it is in ours.  It is non progressive and his duties are to look after the new Initiates and younger (Masonic) Brethren, helping them to understand our Ancient Ways.

 

SENIOR DEACON

 

This is a progressive Office.  The Senior Deacon has many duties in the ceremonies but his main duty is to escort the Candidate round the Lodge during the second and Third Degree Ceremonies.

 

JUNIOR DEACON

 

This is a progressive Office.  The Junior Deacon has, again, many duties in the Ceremonies but his main duty is to escort the Candidate round the Lodge during the Initiation Ceremonies.

 

 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR of CEREMONIES

 

This is a non Progressive Office.  The Asst. D. C. Assists the D. C. and escorts Brethren around the Lodge.

INNER GUARD

 

This is the first of the Progressive Offices within the Lodge.  His duties are to guard the door of the Lodge and to admit Masons on Proof.  Answer all Alarms and Reports. 

The I. G. also checks that the Candidate for Initiation is properly prepared.

 

 STEWARDS

 

These Officers are responsible for understudying the Junior and Senior Deacons and the Inner Guard. 

They also help with the After-Proceedings and usually serve the wines and organise the raffle.

 

 TYLER

 

The Tyler stands outside the door of the Lodge and is responsible for seeing that Brethren and Visitors are correctly clothed and where necessary to test them in the proficiency of the Degree which they have attained and in which the Lodge is Opened. 

He also prepares the Candidate(s) for Initiation.
